Dimensioning Profiles
Overview: Once you have applied your geometric constraints, the next step is to dimension your profile. Dimensions determine the size to your profile. Play the video for an overview on how to properly add some basic dimensions to your profiles. This is a sound video, so please adjust your volume accordingly.
Smart Dimensions
A common dimension type is called the Smart Dimension. The Smart Dimension changes the dimension type based on what is selected. If a line is picked, the dimension is measured parallel to the line. If an arc is selected, a radius dimension is displayed. You can create many different types of dimensions with the Smart Dimension, including dimensioning between objects. To dimension between two objects, pick the first object, then pick the second object.
Dimension Between
This option creates a series of stacked or chain dimensions from an origin curve. First, select the dimension origin, and then select the second location for the dimension. After the dimension is placed, select another location and place the dimension relative to the first dimension. You can pick and place as many dimension as necessary.
Driving/Driven Dimensions
Most dimensions that are applied to a profile are called driving dimensions. The term 'driving' means that this dimension is parametric and can be edited to change the size of the profile. Driving dimensions display in the graphics window usually in black. If a profile curve gets dimensioned twice (double dimensioned), the last dimension created becomes a driven dimension. A driven dimension is really a reference dimension. A driven dimension displays in the graphics window as a different color, usually blue.
